Girl Friday's Virtual Assistant-Outsourcing Office Open's in Downtown Salinas

Girl Friday Agency opens a virtual assistant/Outsourcing office in downtown Salinas. The Agency has a variety of staff available with backgrounds from business accounting, economics, administration, marketing, statistics, and information technology, etc. Outsourcing can offer greater budget flexibility and control. Outsourcing lets ...organizations pay for only the services they need, when they need them. It also reduces the need to hire and train specialized staff, brings in fresh engineering expertise, and reduces capital and operating expenses. While this may vary from company to company, the fruits of labor are visible among some of the leading company’s world wide. This has become a core component of day to day business strategies. The Agency realizes outsourcing has a direct impact on a company’s bottom line.

Father's Day

Don't forget, this Sunday (June 16th) is Father's Day! Somehow, Father's Day always seems a little trickier to plan than Mother's day. If you seem to share this problem, here are a few ideas to help this weekend be a successful one!

46840 Highway One at Pheneger Creek
Venue: Big Sur River Inn

Sunday afternoons at the River Inn are long standing tradition in Big Sur. Live music on the Riverside Deck featuring the best in all kinds of jazz with some of our favorite folk, zydeco and world music mixed in. Plus a "Backyard BBQ" for those who want to sit on the vast lawns ... by the river and listen to the tunes.

Summer Struck Festival

June 16, 2013

Weekend Getaways in California

Summer has finally arrived! As you start pulling out beach towels, bikinis, sunscreen, and vacation destination handbooks, don't forget about all the fun and affordable weekend getaways on your doorstep! California has hundreds of beautiful State and National Parks just waiting to be explored. Many of which offer camping in some of the most areas in the country.
For instance, my friend and I recently took a roadtrip from Southern California up the Coastal Road (Hwy 1). We decided to stop for the night in Santa Barbara. With dusk fast approaching, we quickly selected a campsite at Jalama Beach. It was a bit off the beaten path, but that was part of the appeal. The campground was beautiful, with stunning scenery. There were many sites to choose from. Some of which literally touched the sand. A total escape for anyone looking to get out of town for the weekend.
For more information of Jalama Beach Campground, visit:

Healthy Habits.

Whether you're dieting or just looking to add a healthy component to your diet, Chia Seeds are an excellent source of all kinds of healthy goodness! Here's a list of several reasons to add Chia to your daily diet.

  1. Help weight loss. Chia seeds are popular for weight loss. They reduce food cravings by preventing some of the food that you eat from getting absorbed into your system. This blockage of calorie absorption makes them a great diet helper.
  2. Feel fuller faster: They can also help your diet by making you feel full. This is because they absorb 10 times their weight in water, forming a bulky gel.
  3. Hydration for athletes: They are also great for athletes because the "chia gel" can hydrate the body.
  4. Reduce your blood pressure: There's evidence to suggest they can reduce blood pressure.
  5. Omega-3: They are the richest plant source of Omega-3 (the vital fats that protect against inflammation—such as arthritis—and heart disease). In fact, they contain more Omega-3 than salmon!
  6. Benefits for diabetes: Because chia seeds slow down how fast our bodies convert carbohydrates into simple sugars, studies indicate they can control blood sugar. This leads scientists to believe chia seeds may have great benefits for diabetics.
  7. They are easier to digest than flax seeds, and don't need to be ground  up.                                                                                                                                                                                           Chia Seeds can be found at most health food stores, and range in price. They can be added to almost any liquid. I usually mix them with juice, but they can be added to smoothies, water, even yougurt! They do have a strange texture to them (somewhat like tapioca pudding), but don't have much taste. Start improving your diet, and find some today!

Sea Otter Classic Movie Night -Golden State Theatre

Sea Otter Classic Movie Night!

Singletrack High

To benefit the National Interscholastic Cycling Association

Sea Otter Classic special documentary screening, presented by National Interscholastic Cycling Association!

At the age of 16, many American kids trade in two wheels for four. Trusty steeds that once gave them freedom to explore on weekends now collect dust in the garage. For a growing number of high school students in Northern California, however, two wheels don’t get dusty, they get dirty. Their lives continue to revolve around weekend rides, but now those rides have a finish line. These are the student athletes of the NorCal High School Cycling League. This is Singletrack High.
Proceeds benefit the National Interscholastic Cycling Association.

Going Green-A Guide to Natural, DIY, Cleaning Supplies.

Homemade household cleaners are a great way to save money and live a more chemical free life.  Along with the many household uses for vinegar, there are other DIY household cleaners that you should consider adding to your must try list. Enjoy!

DIY Window Cleaner… a green alternative.

Window cleaner can be expensive and full of harsh chemicals, but there is a DIY alternative that works just as good as the store bought kind.  Clean windows and mirrors with DIY Window Cleaner and a paper towel or absorbent flour sack towel.  Whether it’s daily cleaning, or windows that have been slobbered on by a loving family dog, this DIY cleaner will get the job done.

DIY Window Cleaner

Ingredients

10 ounces rubbing alcohol
10 ounces water
3 teaspoons vinegar
splash of blue food coloring (optional)

Directions

Combine all ingredients in spray bottle and gentle shake to mix.

DIY Laundry Detergent

Ingredients

1 bar (5.5 ounces) Fels-Naptha soap
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax

 Directions

Use a cheese grater to grate the soap.  Mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl and stir together to combine them really well.  Alternatively you could pour them all into a 1/2 gallon jar and shake the ingredients to combine.  Recipe yields approximately 1 quart.  Use 1-2 tablespoons per load of laundry depending on what you are treating.  For front load washers, you can put the laundry detergent in the drum prior to adding clothes.

DIY Dishwasher Detergent

Ingredients

2 cups washing soda
1/2 cup borax
1/4 cup kosher salt
1/4 cup citric acid
Sprinkle rice

Directions

Mix all the ingredients together in a plastic tub or 1/2 gallon jar that you can seal and shake.  Stir everything together until well mixed, but if you have a container with a lid that seals well, go ahead and shake it up too.  The sprinkle of rice is to help prevent the dishwasher detergent from clumping together in the container.
Yields three cups.  Use 1 tablespoon per dishwasher load.

The Holidays Are Here!

Hello all!
This week’s small/local business spotlight is somewhat of an assortment of several businesses on the Monterey Peninsula. The Independent Market, is a relatively new, hip, and happening “farmers-marketesque” event that takes place the first Thursday of every month inside “The Independent”, which is an apartment/condo/art gallery/beer garden, all in one. The market hosts businesses including, but not limited to: Everett Family Farms, Big Sur Bakery, Surf and Sand, Old Town Tattoo, The Offset Project, Ashby Confections, Local Catch Monterey, Happy Girl Kitchen, Penny Ice Creamery, Fiesta Farms, Olio-Vintage Fun, etc. You can always expect; live music, delicious food, fun crafts, and friendly vendors without fail.
The next Market will take place on December 6th, and will have more of a “Holiday Bazaar” feel, due to it being the last market before Christmas. Be sure to check it out!
Hours are 4pm-9pm at 600 Ortiz Ave. Sand City, CA 93955.
